Gender Transformation and Empowerment can encompass a very broad range of activities, including both legal representation of individual women and solidify their empowerment for a wider policy change. AWCCO shall work with constituents and stakeholders closely to identify the critical needs of women; work with them to have impactful gender transformation and empowerment. It is important to be clear from the outset about what is meant by gender transformation within this goal. The focus is the patriarchal and systemic gaps in gender equality that seeks to influence government, policy makers, decision makers, stakeholders and other relevant audiences to support and implement actions that contribute to the realization of women rights.
Gender based violence and exploitations are also rampant in the Tigrai due to the ongoing war. These facts and realities require a critical need for protection, SGBV services, mental and psycho-social support (PSS) for the affected people in general and for children and women who suffered traumatic experiences in particular. To this end, AWCCO should be voice for the voiceless segments of the community jointly in well-coordinated and collaborative manner with all concerned stakeholders in order to enable women and children’s voices to be heard directly.
.
All children shall have access to quality and relevant learning environments. Equity remains a concern, particularly for girls and students with special needs. Many children with special needs are not fully integrated in the system. AWCCO understands the importance of increasing the provision of inclusive education in mainstream schools. Hence, our children’s interests shall be the primary concern whenever any response for allegation of abuse or neglect is in need. In order to improve the practices, this core division or strategic theme emphasizes: a) on ensuring the wellbeing and safety of children, including prevention of child abuse or maltreatment b) on child education towards having (1) high quality physical environments, (2) attention to equitable access and special needs (inclusive education), (3) involve families and communities (including in peace and mine action risk education interventions) and, (4) professionally prepared teachers.
.
We really sense that the increasing frequency and scale of emergencies requires nutrition to be
addressed in all phases of a response. Children and pregnant and lactating women are particularly
vulnerable to under nutrition. In general mothers and children population groups are more
nutritionally vulnerable than others in emergencies based on physical, geographical, social, economic,
and refugee status point of view, due to their increased nutrient requirements for growth and
development. Young children are also exposed to a higher risk (compared to other population groups)
of contracting infections, which can further increase nutrient requirements, impede nutrient use and
reduce appetite.
The currently available evidence clearly reveals that Tigrai faces a situation of widespread constraint
of food availability, economic resources, health facility services including hygienic environment,
inadequate access to health and nutrition, lack of medications, and poor caring practices of community
members amplify the chronic and very high levels of malnutrition and also capacity is limited to
implement substantive and community based interventions especially targeting vulnerable women and
children. As a result many children suffer from acute malnutrition.
Thus, AWCCO will retain an absolute focus on supporting vulnerable target women’s and children’s to access necessary health and nutrition services and also improve their capacity to survive the variety of shocks they are faced with. This strategy sets out how we intend to ensure WASH, to improve quality MCH services and to strengthen nutrition provision to vulnerable women’s and children’s.
Partnership plays a significance role in creating synergistic solutions to challenges for partnering entities by exchange, sharing, or co-development of resources or capabilities. Strong and effective partnerships can play a key role in effective advocacy, empowerment and development. AWCCO cannot achieve effective changes for women and children without strong collaboration with other organizations. The broader the base of support and the more closely aligned the messaging across those partners, the greater the likelihood of reaching relevant decision-makers whether at the local, regional and global level. This involves building good relationships within government, NGO, developmental agencies, civil society organizations, professional organizations, and trade unions, networks of children’s organizations, academic institutions, and the media.
On Other hand, to have an effective Partnership and achieve other strategic objectives, organizational Capabilities are necessities. Capabilities exist when resources have been purposely integrated to achieve a specific task or set of tasks. These tasks range from human resource selection to provide service and research and development activities. Critical to the building of competitive advantages, capabilities are often based on developing, carrying, and exchanging information and knowledge through the organization’s human capital. Beneficiary-specific capabilities often develop from repeated interactions with beneficiaries and the learning about their needs that occurs. As a result, capabilities often evolve and develop over time. The foundation of AWCCO capabilities lies in the unique skills and knowledge of an organization’s employees.
